Organizations provide the resources at scale, the social structures, and the institutional memory necessary to bring the artifacts of computing to a place where it can have a lasting impact.
As with all human establishments, there is an ebb and a flow to every such entity: some endure, most fade away, all of them will morph as the fruits of computing weave themselves into the interstitial spaces of civilization.
